8 Reasons Why Your New Business Needs a Lawyer

When setting up a new business, it’s often hard to know what you don’t know. Here are 8 ways a business lawyer can help your new business:

1. A lawyer can help you choose what type of entity (usually a corporation or a limited liability company, “LLC”) is best for your business.
2. If your business has two or more owners, a lawyer can prepare the necessary agreements to govern what happens when someone wants out of the business, or someone else wants to buy in, or you want to sell the business, etc.
3. A lawyer can prepare employment documents, such as employment agreements, non-compete agreements, or employee handbooks.
4. If you’re leasing space, a lawyer can review the lease and make sure the terms are favorable to you.
5. If you will be providing services to customers (photography, web design, yoga, etc.), a lawyer can put together the agreements or releases that your customers will need to sign, which protects both you and the customers.
6. If you’re setting up a restaurant or bar, a lawyer can help you obtain your liquor license.
7. If you’re looking for investors, an attorney can help you with crowdfunding.
8. If anyone requires that your business sign a contract, your lawyer can review it to determine the risks and benefits to your company.

  1. I see. The business lawyer really is important when starting a business. I always thought that people can start businesses on their own. Practically, I know they can but in order to prevent problems in the future, a legal expert may be very useful.
