19 law schools from across the county competed on Friday March, 24 in the 2023 Wayne State Jaffe/Taft Transactional Law Invitational. The Invitational hosted the schools at the Southfield offices of Taft Stettinius & Hollister (formerly Jaffe Raitt Heuer and Weiss).
Teams participating in the competition were presented with a sophisticated case study and tasked with preparing an agreement for the fictional business transaction between buyer and seller groups. The competition concluded with two rounds of live negotiations, which took place at Taft’s office.
Melissa Demorest LeDuc, an attorney at Demorest Law Firm, served as one of 20 judges in this year’s Invitational. LeDuc (Wayne Law ’05) said of her experience: “I greatly enjoyed judging this competition, which gives law students far more hands-on transactional experience than I had in law school.”
