Demorest Law Firm is pleased to introduce you to our newest team member, Austen Shearouse. Originally from Texas, Austen grew up with a love of reading and politics that carried over into his undergraduate studies. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Baylor University, graduating from the Interdisciplinary Core program within the Honors College. While at Baylor, he worked as an official for the Baylor Intramural Department and participated in the Baylor University Student Officials Association as the Interim-President in 2014. He also participated in a non-profit organization focused on fundraising for various causes through safe events for students both on and off of campus.
His studies took him to Michigan where he graduated with a Law Degree from Michigan State University College of Law in 2020. While in law school, he participated in several regional negotiation competitions as a member of the Michigan State Negotiation Team. He was also elected as the Student Bar Association Vice President from 2019 through 2020, assisting in the creation of a wellness committee, increasing inclusive initiatives, and acting as a liaison for integration issues with Michigan State as a whole.
After passing the Bar in 2020, he jumped into Michigan Law achieving quick successes in a variety of areas including contract/statutory interpretation, medical malpractice, products liability, and civil rights. His years of practice have seen him successfully brief and argue in front of the Michigan Court of Appeals, U.S. District Courts and bankruptcy Courts on a variety of matters.
With these experiences as a base, Austen has developed into a strong advocate, both written and orally, for his clients. His passion for law and justice are evidenced not only by his in-practice experiences but shown through his membership in the American Association for Justice and the Michigan Association for Justice. At Demorest Law Firm, Austen will primarily be handling litigation, as well as contracts, commercial transactions, real estate transactions, and employment.
