Oakland County is joining other counties in Michigan such as Antrim, Benzie, Branch, Grand Traverse, Houghton, Ingham, Isabella, Kalkaska, Livingston, Manistee, Marquette, Mason, Montcalm, and Ottawa in offering its citizens a Property Fraud Alert Service. Those registered for the service will receive an alert when any recording in the County Register of Deeds is made with regard to the subscriber’s name or business name.
According to the FBI, property fraud and mortgage fraud are two of the fastest growing white-collar crimes in the United States. Although the Property Fraud Alert Service does not prevent the fraudulent activity from occurring, the alert may allow property owners to more quickly address fraud and contact the proper authorities.
This is a useful tool for property owners. Oakland County property owners can enroll for this free service at https://www.oakgov.com/clerkrod/rod/Pages/fraud_alert.aspx
