Recently, Fortune Magazine published a list of the 100 best companies to work for. Four Michigan companies made the list, all inside the top 50.
The highest-ranked Michigan company, at number 12, is Detroit-based mortgage lender Quicken Loans. Quicken Loans offers tuition-reimbursement, an onsite medical center, and paid time off to volunteer. In addition, Quicken Loans is an official sponsor of the Detroit Lions and has reserved an entire section of seats at Ford Field for company use. Quicken Loans has 9,010 employees and 600 vacancies.
At number 19 is Stryker, a medical-device producer based in Kalamazoo. Stryker offers its employees tuition reimbursement of up to $15,000 and paid time off to volunteer in addition to yearly training, 401k matching and stock options. Stryker has 12,277 employees and 561 job openings.
Plante Moran, in Southfield, comes in at number 29. Plante Moran is a 90-year-old accounting firm, and offers tuition reimbursement, as well as an average base pay of $78,000 for auditors. Plante Moran has 1,935 employees and 110 job openings.
At number 37 is another Southfield-based business. Credit Acceptance is a credit and financial services company. The company offers tuition reimbursement to employees and focuses on employee happiness. Credit Acceptance is the smallest Michigan business on the list with 1,334 employees and 69 job openings.
The rankings are based on employee responses to questions about things like job satisfaction, management and camaraderie, as well as information about pay, benefits, hiring practices, and other company initiatives.
