The head of Michigan’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recently clarified one aspect of Michigan’s smoking ban that affects restaurant and bar patios. The new stance is that bar and restaurant owners can allow smoking on patios and decks only if food and drinks aren’t being served at that time.
Michigan’s smoking ban has been in effect for all places of employment (except casinos) since 2010.
