Demorest Law Firm, PLLC Announces the Addition of Two Attorneys to the Firm

Demorest Law Firm, PLLC is pleased to announce that Derek R. Mullins and Jacob A. Kahn have joined the firm.

DEREK R. MULLINS:  Derek’s practice focuses on litigating complex commercial, real estate, class action, antitrust, and administrative law matters in state and federal courts.  He also counsels companies on state and federal procurement issues, including reviewing, negotiating, and drafting contracts and agreements.  Derek also has experience assisting companies with internal investigations and in responding to civil and criminal inquires by federal and state agencies.

Derek received his B.A. in Political Science from Brown University in Providence, RI (2006), and received his law degree from Columbia Law School, New York, NY (2010).

Derek was formerly a partner with Honigman LLP, Detroit, MI (September 2016 – August 2019), an associate attorney with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, Washington, DC (September 2014 – August 2016), and an associate attorney with Crowell & Moring LLP, Washington, DC (January 2011 – August 2014).  Derek’s Bar Affiliations include all Michigan, District of Columbia, and Georgia Courts; the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan; and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.

Derek is married with two children, and lives in Ann Arbor, MI.

JACOB A. KAHN:  Jake will be focusing primarily on business and real estate litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Jake worked for one of the largest insurance defense firms in Michigan, aggressively defending “Special Investigations Unit” fraud claims.

Jake received his B.A. in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI (2009), and he received his law degree from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, in Detroit, MI (2017).  Jake’s Bar Admissions include all Michigan Courts, and he is a member of the State Bar of California as well.  Jake’s Professional & Personal Affiliations include: the Oakland County Bar Association, Michigan Defense Trial Counsel, American Mensa and he’s served as a General Civil Facilitative Mediator – Wayne County Dispute Resolution Center (2015).

While attending law school, Jake served as an Intern with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit (Summer 2016), and also participated in the Detroit Mercy Law Criminal Trial Clinic (2015).

Jake is engaged to be married, and resides in West Bloomfield, MI.
