Changes to Michigan Court of Claims

Governor Snyder recently signed a new law that transferred the control of the Michigan Court of Claims from Ingham County Circuit Court to the Michigan Court of Appeals.  Under the new law, four judges from the Michigan Court of Appeals are now responsible for hearing all claims against the state or any of its departments or officers, for monetary, equitable, or declaratory relief or any demand for an extraordinary writ.  All pending cases in the Court of Claims have been transferred to the Court of Appeals.

Additional legislation is still pending on this issue, including provisions regarding the right to jury trial.
